Making Sure Your Bike is Ready to Ship

So you want to give a friend of yours in Boston a sweet motorcycle that you don’t use that much anymore. Of course, it seems silly to ride it from Tampa all the way to Massachusetts just to hand it over to him. The obvious choice would be to ship the motorcycle.

There are a lot of shipping companies that handle motorcycle and automotive shipping. However, shipping these vehicles is different from shipping a porcelain vase to your grandmother in another state. There are factors that must be considered when shipping a motorcycle:

Clean your bike

While cleaning your bike, check for any dents and imperfections that it currently has, so that you can hold the shipping company responsible for any damages that weren’t there when you inspected it.

Remove the battery and gas

Since motorcycles are much more maneuverable than cars, it’s not a requirement that you leave any amount of fuel in the vehicle. It is also advisable to take out the battery from the motorcycle. Leaving the gas and battery in the motorcycle can make it a fire hazard, and they may become detrimental to the safety of the bike as well as the shippers.

Check the motorcycle

Check the tires and inflate them if they are flat. Check the vital parts of the motorcycle for leaks. Secure any screws that might come loose after an arduous shipping process. Doing this ensures that the bike will safely reach its destination.
