You
can have your bike shipped locally or overseas using different
methods (by land, sea, or air), but one thing remains true –
whichever path you take, motorcycle shipping is a very closely
regulated process. You should take care to comply with regulations as
much as you have to clean and gear your bike up before having it
hauled away.
Documentation
You
will need to conduct proper documentation of the current condition of
your bike, so you will have to take pictures of it from as many
angles as you can to accurately detail its actual state before
shipping. Prior to snapping away, make sure that the keys aren’t in
the ignition, the bike is upright, and in neutral gear in all photos,
and the tires are inflated.
Papers
The
next thing to prepare are the papers that proves your ownership of
the bike. A certificate of title and a commercial invoice might be
enough to show that you’re the owner of the motorcycle that you
plan on shipping. If, however, you aren’t the legal owner, make
sure to prepare an official authorization document.
Choose
a shipping company that adequately complies with their end of the
shipping agreement as well, otherwise you might not be able to
successfully obtain compensation should anything happen to your
motorcycle while in transit. Book your shipping well ahead of time
and ask the company for more information on the various regulations
or rules that you have to comply with.
